Aaron Schock comes out publicly as gay and explains himself: “I put my ambition over the truth”
Well, here it is – an entire explanation by ex-Congressman Aaron Schock on being in the closet, those anti-LGBT rights votes, being rejected by his mother after the Coachella pics.
GLAAD has issued a statement that sums up how I felt after reading Schock’s long Instagram post. I’ve posted that tweet below.
Dear readers, do weigh in!
Everyone deserves to come out as their authentic self on their own terms. However, Aaron Schock’s statement fails to acknowledge the years of hurt that his votes against hate crimes protections, the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and more caused LGBTQ Americans. — GLAAD (@glaad) March 5, 2020

Good for him. Now to make amends….Dear Aaron, I would strongly suggest that you put your energy and resources into helping fellow members of the LGBTQ community who you have hurt by your voting record. Volunteer your time to help other vulnerable members of the LGBTQ family, get involved with issues impacting our community, reach out to the politicians you used to commiserate with (other GOPers, priimarily) to discuss your about-face and encourage them to gain an understanding of queer folks, etc. LGBTQs are quick to forgive, but authentic contrition is key. good luck

I agree with Glaad. It will take a long tine of good work to make up for his record.

I commend you one getting on the right side of the truth. I’m also glad that you were able to come out on your terms. I did not get that opportunity and I was put through pure hell for it. Having said that, for someone as hot as you definitely are – yeah you spent far too much time in the gym to be straight – you damn sure hurt a lot of people. Also, you need to realize that NOTHING in or about the Republican Party is beneficial to anyone LGBTQ. Perhaps you should have a long conversation with Pete & Chasten Buttigieg on just how to properly give back to your country. Yes, LGBTQ are indeed fact to forgive. But the next step is on you. The only thing Republicans will do in respect to you is play you for a fool, use you up, and throw you away. The faster you make the switch to the Democratic Party, the better you will be. I bet you have a great amount to offer. I’ll be watching. Please don’t let me or us down again. Come to Atlanta soon. You will like our community. The best LGBT in the US. You can find me on Twitter. Thanks.
