A look back at Olivia de Havilland’s legendary rivalry with Oscar-winning sister Joan Fontaine

It seemed li0ke maybe both of them would both live forever. But only one of the famous de Havilland sisters made it to 100 and that is Olivia – today.

Two-time Oscar winner Olivia de Havillandwas “shocked and saddened” by the death of her Oscar winning sister Joan Fontaine of Suspicion and Rebecca fame three years ago at the age of 96 even though the two had not been in touch for nearly 40 years.

It was no secret that these two film legends never got along but I found many photos online where they appeared to be on friendly terms. The one at the bottom is from the mid-70s and they are with their mother, Lillian Fontaine and is believed to be the final image of them together..
