A heartbroken Ellen DeGeneres dedicates show to ”all the people of Newtown” Connecticut

Ellen DeGeneres showed up to tape her talk show today with a heavy heart in the aftermath of the massacre at an elementary school Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and six adults dead.
‘We’re going to do the show and it’s going to be a struggle because my heart is broken for those families and for all the people of Newtown,’ a subdued Ellen said during the show’s opening which will air tomorrow (she tapes a day ahead). ‘We’re holding you in our hearts and today’s show is dedicated to you.’
Before she mentioned Newtown, Ellen reiterated that each day she comes out to do the show, her aim is to entertain and to make her audience ‘feel good for an hour.’
‘I want it to be a safe zone, I want it to be light and filled with joy,’ she said. ‘I want you to know that you can watch with your family and it won’t be mean or sad. I want it to be uplifting and to celebrate all that’s good in life.’
But even DeGeneres was finding that to be a challenge on this day. Below is video of her remarks.

Dear Ellen,
I live in Killeen, Tx , not asking for anything big but just to come on your show and walk the stairs slowly with you on a slow music song, because I have bad knees from serving in the military for 22 years and going to Iraq 3 times and also my age plays a part of it I am 53 years young, with 4 grown children and 14 grand children and 6 step-grand children, i have been blessed truly, but it would mean the world to me to just dance with you one time in this life, love you and your show, God Bless and keep you always!
