A great beach read! Boston Globe writer Johnny Diaz’s fourth novel, “Take the Lead,” is out today!
I’m really excited for my friend Johnny Diaz whose fourth novel, Take the Lead, is out this week.
Johnny, whose previous books are Boston Boys Club, Miami Manhunt and Beantown Cuban, is an openly gay journalist at The Boston Globe and what makes his books even more delicious is that they are filled with interesting gay characters.
Here’s a synopsis of the Take the Lead: Can Gabriel navigate the challenges of a new crush and an ailing parent?
Popular college professor Gabriel Galan has a job he adores in Boston, a hot young lover, and a buddy who goes along on pub crawls and Star Trek nights alike. But Gabriel wants more.
When Gabriel’s stubbornly independent father needs help managing his Parkinson’s disease, Gabriel takes on more than he bargained for, and his smooth-cruising life is about to take a sharp turn as he teeters on the edge of a new crush on Adam, his father’s physical therapy dance class instructor.
Gabriel has always yearned for a co-pilot on his journey through life, but first he needs to take the lead and navigate the troubled waters of his own heart.
The book was inspired by a real dance class for people with Parkinson’s which Johnny wrote an article about for The Boston Globe two years ago.

Congratulations to Johnny who is not only a fine writer, but a really terrific guy!

ND Mitchell says:
I might have to check out this book..it sounds real..he also might want to see if those books can be turned into DVD films to be shown on Here! and Logo. I’d read and watch the film, too. It looks like Johnny might have a new fan….ME!
Johnny Diaz says:
Thanks Greg and thanks ND!
The books are ideal for Logo or Here! Hopefully, someone will feel the same way! Fingers crossed
