2015 Oscar nominees contain some surprising snubs – including Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal
So last night I met a friend at the ArcLight in Hollywood for a screening of The Godfather II which I had never seen on the big screen. It was an absolutely terrific movie-going experience that I highly recommend.
As I arrived, there was some craziness going on outside and I soon realize it was the premiere for Cake and there was Jennifer Aniston and a zillion cameras and reporters. I snapped a quick photo with my phone then we ran into the theater because we were late.
Anyway, it was a terrific night for Aniston I am sure but not such a terrific morning as she was snubbed by the Academy and did not receive an expected Oscar nomination for her performance. Past winner Marion Cotillard, however, did make the cut for Two Days, One Night which might have been a surprise. I haven’t seen Cake but I did see Cotillard’s movie at AFI Fest and I can tell you it is a well-deserved nomination.
Anyway, the nominations were announced early this morning and the one snub that I am most upset about is Jake Gyllenhaal not getting a best actor nod for Nightcrawler. It was a riveting performance on so many levels and it seems ridiculous that he was not on the list. I have no quibbles with Eddie Redmayne or Benedict Cumberbatch or Michael Keaton and I expected those outstanding performances to make the cut. Have not seen American Sniper so have no opinion of Bradley Cooper but I have seen Foxcatcher and do not feel Steve Carrell’s performance was as deserving as Gyllenhaal’s.
Maybe Jake needed a big fake nose?

Joe says:
Several snubs this year. Jake and Jennifer, yes. That’s two snubs in a row for Jake….he must be the new Leonardo DiCaprio.
Also snubbed were Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz for Big Eyes, Ben Affleck for Gone Girl, and Angelina Jolie for directing Unbroken.
Sammy says:
This snub includes Selma’s David Oyelowo and its director Ava Duvernay. Its a crowded field this year as so it goes. But with the industry and critics’ enthusiastic praises the golden statuette will land on the 12 year sleeper, Boyhood.
