2015 Grammys: My round-up of what’s gay about this year’s nominations

Neil Patrick Harris has won a Tony and four Emmys.

Now he has a change to add a Grammy to his collection of the biggest awards in showbiz.

He is among the openly gay artists who have scored Grammy nominations besides British singer Sam Smith.

Smith earned five nominations including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Principal soloist Harris scored a nod in the Best Musical Theater Album category for Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Tweeted Harris: ‘The @HedwigOnBway cast recording was just nominated for a Grammy! So proud! Now what happens? Bribery? Sexual favors? #WhatWouldHedwigDo?’

The Hedwig album will compete with Aladdin, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder and West Side Story.

Cheyenne Jackson is one of the principal soloists nominated for the West Side Story album.

He tweeted on Friday: ‘Got off the plane and was a #Grammy nominee!!! Congrats to @alsilbs & everyone at the San Francisco Symphony. SO PROUD. @TheGRAMMYs’

Filmmaker John Waters of Hairspray fame is nominated in the Best Spoken Word Album category for the audio version of his book Carsick: John Waters Hitchhikes Across America.

Waters has competition from a beloved gay icon, Joan Rivers, who died in September at the age of 81. Rivers is nominated for her audio of her best seller Diary of a Mad Diva.

Waters and Rivers compete with former US President Jimmy Carter (A Call to Action), James Franco (Actors Anonymous) and US Senator Elizabeth Warren (A Fighting Chance) and Gloria Gaynor (We Will Survive: True Stories Of Encouragement, Inspiration, And The Power Of Song).
