Debra Messing wishes “Will & Grace” lasted longer

It turns out eight seasons of Will & Grace was not quite enough for Debra Messing.

The actress, who won an Emmy for her portrayal of Grace Adler on the classic sitcom, told HuffPost Live on Thursday that the ideal stopping point would have been 10 seasons.

‘I guess I would change the fact that we stopped after eight years,’ Messing said. ‘It was such a happy time, and we were all really exhausted by that point and it was the right thing to do at that time, but now obviously time has passed, and I watch the show with my son who laughs at it and I think it would’ve been really great to do it a few more years.’

Messing starred on the show from 1998-2006 with fellow Emmy winners Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally.

She reunited with McCormack on a recent episode of her current NBC series The Mysteries of Laura. which I just have not taken to. But I did watch her other two post-Will & Grace shows Smash and The Starter Wife.

3 Remarks

  1. I used to love W & G, however, Grace was my least favourite character. Her pathetic fag-hag love for Will made me rather nauseous at times. It was Jack and Karen who carried the show, complimented by supporting characters Rosario and Beverly Leslie. I would have loved to have seen a spin off with just the latter four characters.

  2. I loved the show, but it definitely had gotten tired. The last year I was watching it more sporadically. The last straw was when they brought Stan back “from the dead”, and the whole Alec Baldwin relationship thing with Karen was stupid. I think it was time for W&G to retire despite hating to see it go. All good things must end. The networks have yet to find another show with gay characters that have clicked like “Will and Grace”.

  3. Yes, the W&G shows were very sporadic and all over the place with story arcs. Some episodes were fantastic and others a real snooze fest. It broke major ground one minute and was a stereo typical embarrassment the next. However, I would not trade anything for any of it.
