Greg Louganis has a message for Indiana: “Your love matters, but so does mine!”

This morning, Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed a controversial bill into law that allows anyone – including private businesses and organizations – to discriminate against LGBT people and others due to religious beliefs.

I wrote about it over at Gay Star News.

Many famous folks are calling Pence out for signing the bill including Olympic diving legend Greg Louganis who posted this on Facebook today:

Ok, so I am going to Indy next week! I have a plan, I will introduce myself politely, “Hi, I’m Greg Louganis, and I am Gay, in fact legally married to Johnny Chaillot-Louganis in the state of California, would you refuse me or any other of my Gay Brother’s or Sister’s in your establishment?” If they say “But you are an Olympic Champion!” I will smile and leave!

I am concerned the Olympic Diving Trials are in Indy, VERY concerned! All Athletes and Coaches should feel welcome, this law prohibits that. How is Seattle looking to host the Olympic Trials again? At least I would know I could attend.

Your love matters, but so does mine!

  1. Well said Greg.

Everything points to SCOTUS legalizing marriage throughout the country and while that is historic we now have to deal with these so called ‘religious exemption’ laws which we can safely say is another version of ‘Jim Crow’.

States that pass these laws should pay a heavy price financially until they claw themselves into the 21st century. I for one am sick and tired of the tea baggers using us to get its crackpot base going. Enough.

In addition how is baking a cake or serving someone toast a religious issue? And where does it stop? Should they be able to refuse service to African Americans, Jews, Muslims, Zoroastrians, Latino’s, the disabled, women etc? This discrimination cannot stand and we must all do what we can to fight it.

The sad thing is, there are many good people gay and straight in Indiana who have to live under this crap. In the media, I’ve seen the “We serve Everyone” stickers on business windows which is great, but that so called religious freedom law has to be struck down. How any LGBT person could be a Republican or vote Republican is beyond me.
