View this post on Instagram I couldn’t fall asleep last night. I took a hot shower, I took some melatonin, I took a hit from a blunt, but as I got into bed, I just couldn’t fall asleep. I tossed and turned for hours, shifting the pit in my chest from left to right. I came across footage of the protests that exploded miles— minutes!— from where I lay restless in bed. I considered going, but I didn’t. I don’t have the energy, let alone the power, to reform a system designed to my demise. Between wAnToN eNdAnGeRmEnT and Tuesday’s debate, engaging with politics this week has been worrisome. But worrying is a wasted emotion. Worrying gives the illusion of control, but it never changes the outcome. Action changes the outcome. Registering to vote… double-checking your registration status… obtaining your absentee ballot… changes the outcome. In the interim, I am choosing optimism. When it rains, I look for rainbows; when it’s dark, I look for stars. A post shared by Nicholas Ashe (@nckash) on Oct 2, 2020 at 1:07pm PDT
