Yet another new release date (July 30) for Jim Carrey’s gay flick “I Love You Phillip Morris”

http://www.filmireland.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/phillip-morris.jpgI wrote last week that the April release of the Jim Carrey-Ewan McGregor love story I Love You Phillip Morris had been postponed indefinitely.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009 and focuses on a love affair between a con man (Carrey) and his cellmate (McGregor).

Now there is a new date that’s just been announced but my advice is take it with a grain of salt because we have been here before: Variety reports that the movie will hit theaters in limited release on July 30 then expand into more theaters a week later.

Oh good grief, release the movie already! And if you think audiences or exhibitors can’t handle the gay subject matter and sex scenes, then put it out on DVD and let people make up their own minds.

5 Remarks

  1. What’s the problem about releasing this flick in the US? People in the UK have already had the chance to see it. It appears that something else might be going on.

  2. I watched the trailer for this movie and didn’t think it was funny at all. I mean, AT ALL. You could tell Carrey and McGregor were trying to be funny, but it appeared they were forcing the comedy because the writing is so dreadful. I mean, DREADFUL. They may simply be delaying the release because the film is a stinker, but they’re pressured to release it because it features two big stars. Hopefully, we’ll get to see for ourselves at some point.

  3. This seems over the top campy from the clips, maybe that’s why it hasn’t been released?

  4. The role he plays might lead to “rumours” could get started about his sexuality. Not a good thing to happen at the same time as the break up with his girlfiend? Stranger things have happened, Paul.

  5. The role he plays might lead to “rumours” getting started about his sexuality. Not a good thing to happen at the same time as the break up with his girlfiend? Stranger things have happened, Paul. McGregor would laugh about it. Carrey might not be that secure about it.
