“X-Men” director Bryan Singer announces next film: “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”

Okay, this news about Bryan Singer has nothing to do with my meeting him last weekend but thought it would be fun to post this photo of us anyway.

Singer, busy putting the finishing touches on X-Men: Apocalypse, already has his next project lined up and took to Instagram to announce it.

He plans to make a film version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

‘It’s my 50th birthday and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film, a story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood,’ he writes. ‘I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages. An adventure very dear to my heart…[I’m] not abandoning the X-Men universe…very excited by X-Men Apocalypse and beyond.’

So what the heck was I doing hanging out with Bryan Singer?

I was at a book party at the home of actress Michelle Clunie of Queer as Folk fame. Michelle threw the party for author Charles Kaiser and his new book The Cost of Courage.

Michelle and Singer are the parents of a baby boy – cutest kid ever – and the director showed up at the end of the party. My friends and I stuck around and ended up talking about X-Men movies, The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, legendary director Billy Wilder and what it’s like being a new dad.

Turns out we chatted about everything but 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

One Remark

  1. I hope in the future Bryan directs a ‘Trek’ flick.
