Wishing a happy 55th birthday to Rosie O’Donnell!
Rosie O’Donnell has gotten the most attention in the past year or so in connection to Donald Trump.
She publicly dissed him more than a decade ago while on The View and I’ll never forget his going on one of the entertainment shows and calling her a slob and saying other rude things.
For me, that said everything about Trump – way back then.
If you follow Rosie on Twitter, you can see she is one of those people who are really holding President Trump’s feet to the fire on his many controversies.
Rosie has her critics but I’ve always admired her for speaking her mind and having strong convictions.
She came to fame as a comic on Star Search then did a bunch of great supporting parts in such films as Sleepless In Seattle, The Flintstones, Beautiful Girls and, of course, A League of Their Own.
Then came The Rosie O’Donnell Show which I loved because Rosie was such a fan of a lot of the same people I was/am a fan of.
I remember when she had Streisand on and cried, when she sang the theme to Maude when Bea Arthur was on and singing They’re Playing Our Song with Lucie Arnaz.
And so much more.
It was great stuff.
Rosie won a bunch of Emmys during those years and hosted the Tonys several times.
After the show ended and Rosie came out, she was much more political which we saw when she returned as moderator on The View. Her second stint on the show a few years ago did not last.
I’m always glad to see her acting like in the recent ABC miniseries When We Rise and in her recurring role on The Fosters.
