Wilson Cruz joins the staff of GLAAD!

This sounds like a great fit!

Wilson Cruz is joining the staff of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation as its Strategic Giving Officer.

Cruz begins work today  as part of GLAAD’s development team as he works to help to fund the organization’s work amplifying LGBT stories.

‘From Spanish-language media to sports, Hollywood to the newsroom, GLAAD shares the stories and sparks the discussions that make the world a better place for LGBT people everywhere,’ he said in a statement. ‘I am proud and excited to grow this culture-changing work.’

Wilson first came to fame in his teens as one of the stars of the 1994-95 ABC series My S0-Called Life. He went on to recurring roles on series Party of Five, Noah’s Arc and Raising the Bar and appeared in the films johns, All Over Me, Party Monster, Coffee Date, The Ode, Bam Bam and Celeste, He’s Just Not That Into You and new romantic comedy The People I’ve Slept With.

Wilson also is one of the lead voices in the animated series Rick and Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in the World and played Angel early in the run of the original Broadway production of Rent as well as in the Los Angeles production of that show.

GLAAD President Herndon Graddick said of Cruz: ‘Throughout his career, [he] has been a strong advocate for LGBT Americans. His work in film and television, as well as his commitment to supporting local and national LGBT organizations exemplifies GLAAD’s mission to move LGBT equality forward.’

Cruz’s involvement in GLAAD dates back 17 years. In 1995, he accepted the GLAAD Media Award on behalf of My So-Called Life. Two years later, he joined GLAAD’s Board of Directors and in 2008, GLAAD honored him with its Visibilidad Award.
