Why the Equality Act is personal to me
This photo was taken at my very first job out of college at a magazine. I felt my face burn red one day when I overheard my boss saying to an editor: ‘I wouldn’t have hired Greg if I thought he was gay.” My only thoughts then were: “I’ve got to get better at passing.”
No one should have to go through things like that. It makes the road to becoming your authentic self much more treacherous as you try and balance your ambition with your mental health. I lasted a year there then moved over the newspapers but the impact was long lasting.
