Wentworth Miller gets coming out kudos from Matt Bomer, Ellen, NPH and Jesse Tyler Ferguson
Coming out on the cover of a national magazine (Ellen DeGeneres, Lance Bass, Adam Lambert) or in a television interview (Meredith Baxter) used to be the most common way for a celebrity to announce to the world that they are gay.
Now it’s done more casually on Twitter (Raven-Symone, Greg Rikkart) or YouTube (Lucas Cruikshank), during an awards show speech (Jodie Foster, Matt Bomer) or in a brief mention in a newspaper article (Zachary Quinto, Jim Parsons, Sam Champion).
Well, Wentworth Miller is getting widespread kudos for coming out this week at the same time as making a powerful statement against the anti-gay laws and anti-gay environment in Russia.
‘Wow, I think its really bold and incredibly classy how he came out and did it,’ Bomer said of Wentworth in an interview with E! News last night. ‘I am really proud of him. Its very reflective of his amazing character.’
Other out stars tweeted their support for Miller.
Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson wrote: ‘Coming out can be scary but coming out to send a message of tolerance is heroic.’
Ellen wrote: ‘I’m proud of Wentworth Miller for speaking out in support of equality. Russia doesn’t know what they’re missing.’
Neil Patrick Harris‘ message was short and sweet: ‘Well done, Wentworth Miller. Bravo.’
