Wednesday Morning Man: Edouard Roger-Vasselin!

Today’s Morning Man is a tennis pro currently enjoying his highest singles ranking ever on the ATP Tour – number 48.

Okay, so that’s 47 spots away from number one ranked Rafael Nadal but Edouard Roger-Vasselin seems to be on his way up!

Edouard reached the semifinals of the big Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel last week and yesterday, he won his first-round match at the Paris Masters.

There’s a lot of focus on him this week not only because of his current success, but because he is a Frenchman who is keen to do well at a hometown tournament.

The 29-year-old journeyman pro is the son of 1983 French Open semifinalist Christophe Roger-Vasselin.

This is the best year of Edouard’s career. At the DelRay Beach International Championships, he defeated four opponents including top seed John Isner to reach his first ATP tournament final. He lost to Ernests Gulbis for the title.

In doubles this year, he won two titles: the Hall of Fame Classic in Newport, Rhode Island partnering Nicolas Mahut and in Atlanta partnering Dutchman Igor Sijsling.

He also made the semifinals in doubles at Wimbledon partnering Rohan Bopanna.
