WATCH: Rita Moreno on “One Day at a Time,” new “West Side Story,” awards, racism and more
This Build Series interview with Rita Moreno is from last week. I just watched it and have to say, so much is made of Betty White still working etc but Miss Moreno is 87! She’s in her third season on the Netflix comedy One Day at a Time and will have a role in the feature film remake of West Side Story.
She talks at length about both but also, the first EGOT talks about which award means the most to her. The Oscar is number one and second is the Kennedy Center Honors. Among her other awards are two Emmys, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The only time she cries in this interview is when talking about the racism she has faced, including the slurs she was called. After all these years, it still clearly hurts.
