WATCH: Celine Dion is asked about Barbra Streisand missing her big performance at 1997 Oscars
More than 20 years ago, Barbra Streisand explained in an interview with Barbara Walters that she did not miss Celine Dion’s performance at the 1997 Academy Awards on purpose.
Dion was a last-minute replacement for an ill Natalie Cole to sing I Finally Found Someone, the nominated song Streisand co-wrote for her movie The Mirror Has Two Faces.
As a nominated songwriter, Streisand was in attendance with fiancee James Brolin but was nowhere to be seen when Dion performed and there was buzz that she purposely snubbed Celine. Streisand told Walters that was ridiculous. The Oscars program didn’t list when the songs were being performed so she happened to be in the ladies room when Dion took the stage. She said she would have loved to have had cameras flash to her in the audience during the performance with her new man.
Last night on Watch What Happens Live, Celine was asked about the episode by Andy Cohen and she clearly didn’t see the Barbra-Barbara interview clearing things up!
