Video: Pat Robertson earns a well-deserved place on Anderson Cooper’s “The RidicuList”
Pat Robertson has been saying awful, untrue things about gays for years but he seems to have finally perhaps gone to far – even in the eyes of the people he works for.
Robertson, as I wrote about in a post earlier this week, made the outrageous claim in his The 700 Club show that gay men in San Francisco purposely try and spread the AIDS virus (or “the stuff” as Robertson called it) by wearing a special ring to cut people with when they shake hands.
The Christian Broadcasting Network left that part of the broadcast out of the online version of the show and made repeated efforts to have the clip removed from YouTube.
But it’s too late.
Robertson is now the subject of ridicule including from CNN’s Anderson Cooper who put him on The Ridiculist last night.
‘Really? A ring that somehow gives you AIDS? I’ve never seen that particular section at Zales,’ an incredulous Cooper said. ‘Now I totally get why Pat Robertson is against same-sex marriage. He just doesn’t want to give gay men an excuse to wear rings.’
Cooper showed clips of several of Robertson’s previous anti-gay comments and other instances where he has given outrageous advice to heterosexual couples as well.
The Silver Fox says he usually avoids mentioning Robertson because ‘he’s sort of like that elderly relative who you only see at Thanksgiving – he doesn’t get out of bed much and he’s sitting around the table and suddenly blurts out nonsensical sentences in between chewing on soft foods.’
With Robertson making controversial comments with such frequency, Anderson joked that he is considering changing the name of his nightly Ridiculist segment to The Pat Robertson List.
