Video: Obama on Trump victory: ‘We are all now rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country’
President Barack Obama may have considered Donald Trump ‘unfit’ for the presidency but he vowed today to work with him on a successful transition of power.
‘I had a chance to talk to President-elect Trump last night at 3:30 in the morning to congratulate him on winning the election and invited him to the White House tomorrow to talk about making sure there is a successful transition between our two presidencies,’ Obama said from the White House Rose Garden with Vice President Joe Biden at his side.
Obama had campaigned hard against Trump in campaigning for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton who was his secretary of state.
‘It is no secret that the President-elect and I have some pretty significant differences,’ Obama said, adding later, that ‘we all want what’s best for this country.
‘We are all now rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country.’
Obama, who noted that he also had significant differences with his Republican predecessor George W. Bush but they worked well together during their transition eight years ago.
