Video: Adam Lambert wows crowd at Wango!

Adam Lambert: the pants are part of the show.

I love posting about Adam Lambert and I’ll tell you why: he’s not only an exciting performer and fascinating personality, but he’s a hard-working professional who gives the audiences all he’s got.

It’s so impressive what Adam has accomplished in just over a year and what is most refreshing is that he seems to be enjoying every minute of it.

He performed Saturday night at Staples Center, where L.A.’s pop-radio powerhouse KIIS-FM (102.7) presented its annual Wango Tango concert (see video below). People not only buzzed about his singing, they were also intrigued by the harem pants he was wearing. Adam always keeps it interesting!

Also, The Idolator site caught up with Adam at Wango. Here is an excerpt of that interview:

We recently posted a list of all the movie musicals we think you should star in, like a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show or the American Idiot movie currently in development. Are you on the lookout for a film role?
I think right now I’m just focusing on my music and making videos and touring. I start the Glam Nation tour in June. It’s gonna be all over North America for the next three months, then I think I have some dates in Europe.

You’ve been touring the world to promote For Your Entertainment—Japan, Australia, England, just to name a few. Have other countries you’ve visited been accepting of your sexuality?
Yeah, one of the things that I’ve found that has been really refreshing abroad, is that for the most part, there’s not as many taboos and hang-ups on sexuality [as there are in the U.S.]. So, it’s actually been really great, because the focus has been on the music, as it should be.

What do you think has been the problem in America?
I think there are just some more conservative people here. But I have a lot of warm, beautiful, very accepting fans here and I’m lucky for it.

  1. FANTASTIC performer and person. You just can’t help but LOVE him!!! Look out world, here he comes!

  2. I can’t wait to see him live! There hasn’t been a male performer of his calibre in quite a while. Such a refreshing dose of humility and talent!!

  3. Gosh, I absolutely love him and I totally dig the way you write about him. I was there at Wango Tango, 10 rows behind, stage left and didn’t even need to zoom my camera for the pictures I took. I saw and felt how the crowed hushed when Sleepwalker started. They were mesmerized, they were gone — I mean all the Usher and Beiber fans. I took friends’ teenagers with me for fun and I left Staples with two more Adamized fans. People who have never seen him or heard him live went home and purchased FYE on Amazon and iTunes (judging by the jump in sales). Yes – other artists’ fans were actually listening to Adam and hearing, perhaps for the first time ever, what LIVE singing is all about. And the pants – my guess would be that those were a shout out to his world-wide fans (people were live-streaming on the net for the international fans) since those pants are, for some reason, back en vogue over in the EU and parts of Asia. I’d personally would put them to the fireplace test but then again, love how he plays the haute couture look.

  4. I agree with you that it makes a big difference when someone is having so much fun while entertaining us. I love the joy that Adam Lambert brings to his concerts/songs and as a member of the audience, I enjoy it so much more.

Having beautiful live vocals w/o auto-tune in this day and age is an added plus.

Thank you for sharing with us! :)

  5. Those pants…. only Adam..lol…Love him!

  6. I was there, the guy sung his face off! I have never heard a live act as good before and Im an Usher fan, sorry! Im amazed at his vocal ability! His presence on stage was phenominal but his vocals were friggin unreal! He filled up that arena with this Holy Hell musical intrument! Raw Talent! Unreal!!

  7. Cool review, thank you for being another person who gets what Adam is about and appreciates it. That’s my video of Sleepwalker. I’m flattered you picked it (I apologized on YouTube for missing a few seconds at the beginning when my camera just decided to take an unscheduled break!) Adam never fails to entertain, he is a professional and a real showman. I’m glad he had this opportunity to show what he can do to a whole new audience, and came away with some new fans.

  8. I can’t say that I was feeling the pants, really, but the man can sing! Lambert was one of very few performers at Wango who sang live without a backing track and his voice is insane!
Sure, most people seemed to have come for that Bieber kid but even being “the newbie” Lambert has no reason to hide!
BTW what was up with Kesha? That was one strange performance…

  9. Greg, I LOVE that you love Adam Lambert – and for all the right reasons too! I constantly read and re-tweet your blogs just because of that! And yes, Adam DID wow the crowd (at least from my YouTube view).

But there are some who attended who said he may need to work on his stage presence at arena/stadium shows whose audience is not made up of the Idol/Glambert faithful. They didn’t say he wasn’t good, they said he WAS, but not as good as they’ve known him to be in his more Adam/Idol centric stagings. It was for this reason that some say it wouldn’t be a great idea, at this point, to promote him in arena/stadium gigs either as headliner or opening act. At least until he got more practice and improve (as we know he WILL) in that scenario.

But from the enthusiastic response from the audience (whose Top 40 demo varies greatly) it looks like they were lovin’ every minute of it! And to see this same demographic respond so awesomely to a very out-the-box, gay male, pop upstart from American Idol fame on LiveStream, as it happened, was WONDERFUL! Adam, You Go Boi!!! ☺

    Marilyn from Canada says:

I’m glad that you ‘get’ Adam. I went to his concert in Vancouver and it was incredible. Those out-of-this-world vocals and his incredible stage presence are amazing. And you are right, Adam enjoys performing and really engages the audience to have fun along with him. That is a large part of his message, have fun and let loose.

  11. I’m sorry Beauty butI’m not buying that bit about stage presence at arena/stadium shows. Most bands and rock groups do not move about on the stage much, but reply now days on hugh monitors. It pop divas like GaGa, Pink, Madonna, Cher, and Christina that actually put on a show. Also, I feel its very hard to put on a Adam centric show with four songs in twenty minutes. It doesn’t give anyone time to stage a show. I get the impression that a lot of fans still would like to see more rock performances from Adam where he moves around the stage like on Idol for ‘Born to be Wild’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’.

  12. He sounds absolutely amazing in the vids. I can only imagine how great he sounded live.

  13. @beauty What are you rambling about “stage presence”? “some say”. Uh nope, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that. So sick and tired of these American Idol fans living in the past. Who the heck wants to see American Idol diluted Adam? Oh wait…you do. Sorry. The real Adam has arrived. And he put on one hell of an energetic full on performance. Oh wait. Well there was no cake throwing food fight like Kesha…and no crowd surfing like that other dude. sigh.

  14. Liked your take on this Greg, thanks! Adam’s music, style, and performances are AWESOME!!!

  15. Greg, like others have said, thank you so much for getting Adam and writing about him.

@alli..there WERE a couple of reviews of Wango that commented on Adams stage presence needing work. No need to attack someone who is a fan of Adam or make assumptions about who they are. @beauty wasn’t agreeing with those comments at all, only relaying their words.

I wasn’t there, I don’t know first hand what it was like but reading tweets and comments from people who were there it seems he was a hit and gained lots of new fans. That’s what it’s all about. Now, BRING ON GLAMNATION so I can witness for myself!!! lol

  16. I was lucky enought to see him sing one song live in Finland visit. I am still stunned how incredible his singing is LIVE. Can’t wait to see and hear full concert
