Venus Williams achieves landmark 700th career win
She may have long ago been overshadowed by her younger sister Serena but things like this remind us that Venus Williams is a tennis legend in her own right.
Earlier today, Venus recorded her 700th career win at a tournament in China. She’s only the ninth female player in history to reach that milestone. The only other active player in the exclusive club is Serena Williams with 737.
Among Venus’ 46 titles during her 21 year pro career are five Wimbledons, two US Opens and an Olympic Gold Medal won at the 2000 Summer Games.
The other seven players in the elite 700-plus club are Martina Navratilova (1,442 wins), Chris Evert (1,309), Steffi Graf (902), Virginia Wade, (839) Arantxa Sanchez (759), Lindsay Davenport (753) and Conchita Martinez (739).
Now 35 years old, Venus is ranked 24th in the world and made it to the quarterfinals of the US Open earlier this month losing to Serena in three tough sets.
