Valerie Harper’s cancer almost in remission
When she announced her terminal brain cancer diagnosis to the world in March, Valerie Harper thought she had as little as three months left to live.
But now her doctors are saying her cancer is close to being in remission.
“The problem is that any minute this can change … ,” her doctor said in an interview that aired on The Today Show this morning. “[Patients] develop resistance to the therapy and it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”
So the television icon, who has inspired us all with her upbeat attitude, is making the most of her extra time. She did an episode of Hot in Cleveland, filmed a TV movie and is reportedly set to appear in the new season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
Last week she celebrated her 74th birthday.
On Sept. 19, NBC will air Valerie’s Story — A Meredith Vieira Special.
The cameras travel into Harper’s home and even accompany her to chemotherapy.
She tells Vieria: “Spontaneous remission lives as a possibility, do you know what I mean, girlfriend? … It’s there. … I think infinite possibility is beautiful in every area.”
Her husband, Tony Cacciotti, said: “Going from having three months to live or less. we’re into our sixth month and now there’s even hope beyond that, right now we’re looking at …
“We’re looking at Christmas,” said Harper.
