I’m stunned and heartbroken to hear the devastating news of Ugly Betty creator, Silvio Horta’s death. His talent and creativity brought me and so many others such joy & light. I’m thinking of his family and loved ones who must be in so much pain right now- and of the whole Ugly Betty family who feel this loss so deeply.

#SilvioHorta gave me a huge break on #UglyBetty. He broke barriers and saved lives. Losing him is hard. This photo is from the GLAAD awards when we won. I hear from LGBTQ people all the time that the show helped them. Me too. He and that show will always be with me.

Silvio Horta gave me two of the greatest opportunities in my career with Jake 2.0 and Ugly Betty. I will be forever grateful for his creativity, his enormous heart, and his friendship. His family was his world and my heart goes out to them tonight. Let’s all take care of each other.

I am devastated to hear the news of Ugly Betty Creator Silvio Horta’s suicide. He was passionately devoted to the show’s message-that kindness is a strength and cruelty is weakness. He insisted on diverse casting and changed the notion that a sitcom cast has to be homogeneous in order to be successful. Hit shows with diverse casts such as #TheGoodPlace, #Community , #thisisus , #Superstore, are all part of a movement and of inclusion started by creators like Silvio. Silvio hired me to play Suzuki St Pierre after seeing me perform at the GLAAD awards. What started out as a guest starring role turned into 36 episodes . He created opportunities for actors of color and championed LGBTQ storylines and characters. My heart goes out to his family. This is a major loss for all of us. #silviohorta #uglybetty #rip
