Trailblazer Campaign Video: Nicholas Downs shares how playing lead in “Is It Just Me?” led to his coming out publicly
Last week, I shared with you the first video from James Duke Mason’s new Trailblazer campaign which featured Chad Allen talking about life as a an openly gay actor.
Here is the second installment of this YouTube project that encourages actors to be out and proud. This one features actor Nicholas Downs who had the lead role in the wonderful comedy Is It Just Me? which screened at Outfest last summer.
He talks about growing up in a small town in Iowa as one of 10 kids. He said his sexuality never really came up in his career until he did Is It Just Me? when he was asked repeatedly on the festival circuit if he is gay.
When he finally said “Yes” publicly, he knew he’d made the right decision.
“I just felt this huge weight lifted from my shoulders,” he says in the video. “I felt so amazing, so free, so uninhibited.”
