Totally Random Video: The “Give my daughter the SHOT!” scene from “Terms of Endearment”

Shirley MacLaine gave the performance of her career in the 1983 classic Terms of Endearment as an often overbearing mother whose daughter (played by Debra Winger) is dying of cancer.

In this hospital scene, it is time for her daughter’s pain shot and MacLaine’s Aurora Greenway clearly doesn’t feel the nurse is moving fast enough.

She absolutely loses it in a way that only a mother could.

MacLaine won the Academy Award for best actress beating out a field that also included Winger.

    Tommy Marx says:

I saw this with my college roommate in the theater when it first came out. This scene had me literally crying, and my roommate threw a napkin at me to “help me” dry my tears. Then a few minutes later, Debra Winger gets to see her children for the last time, and my roommate had tears rolling down his face. This movie is one of the best of all time.

  2. I was just speaking about Shirley Maclaine, talking the her role in Steel Magnolias. Shirley is truly an American Treasure. And I won’t say a word about that brother of hers:-)
