Tony winner Alan Cumming thinks US President Donald Trump is ‘an embarrassment to America’

t size-medium wp-image-145155″ />Alan Cumming is no fan of US President Donald Trump who he calls ‘an embarrassment to America.’

The Tony winner and former star of TV’s The Good Wife has harsh words for the embattled Trump who is currently wrapping up his first foreign trip as president. Cumming takes particular issues with what he sees as Trump’s lack of support for LGBT and racial equality.

‘He’s an embarrassment to America for people looking at us, but I think certainly his lack of interest in continuing the process of supporting equality in all areas is something that people will look at,’ Cumming tells CBS News.

‘That obviously has an effect in America and around the world. Hate crimes against LGBT people — especially transgender people, especially against people of color — have rocketed, and of course they would because you have someone who condones those attacks through silence.’

He believes it is racist and anti-LGBTI backlash that enabled Republican Trump to pull off an improbable victory last November over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

‘I just feel that when you have someone as irrational and pandering to anyone who will keep him in his place of power, that’s a very dangerous place if you’re in a minority group that recently just had a big surge in equality,’ Cumming says.

‘If you think the reasons why we have Trump is a massive backlash against people of color in the White House, it’s also a backlash against laws during [President Barack] Obama’s time and a lot of laws pertaining to the LGBT community.’

During the presidency of Obama – the first African-American US president – same-sex marriage became legal in all 50 states and gay people began serving openly in the US military.

Cumming will return to television this fall as the lead in the new CBS series Instinct in which he plays a former CIA operative turned professor who is drawn back into his former life.

Welcome to the club Me. Cumming.
If my family hadn’t moved to Canada in 1967 I would have on Nov.8th 2016. An embarrassment and a disgrace.
