Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing
It lasted just over five years and now Tom Cruise and the woman who inspired him to jump on Oprah’s couch are going their separate ways.
Katie Holmes and Cruise married after a whirlwind and very public romance and had a daughter named Suri.
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
Cruise’s rep tells PEOPLE: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.”
The timing of the split will no doubt result in all kinds of ‘five-year contract’ jokes.
I hope that was not the case and that these two crazy kids were really in love at one time. They do have the cutest kid in the world.
It was Katie’s first marriage and the third for Tom.
He was briefly married to Mimi Rogers then married to Nicole Kidman for just over 10 years.
His latest movie, Rock of Ages, was a box office bomb.

Find it strange as he appears ‘surprised’ since he apparently initiated the two surprised divorces. In particular remember just how Nicole Kidman’s world crashed.
