Today’s Tennis Babe: Carlos Alcaraz!
I’ve been watching plenty of the Australian Open this week and one of the most intriguing storylines is Carlos Alcaraz’s bid to become the youngest man in history to win all of the sport’s four grand slam titles.
The 21-year-old Spanish superstar is the reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion and won the U.S. Open in 2022. An Australian Open title would have him joining Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson (1960s), Fred Perry (1930s) and Don Budge (1930s) in accomplishing a career grand slam.
“I really want to win this tournament. To one day put my name on that short list,” Alcaraz said during opening week of the Australian Open. “I’m working every day to be ready for that time. Hopefully it’s this year. … [My aim is to] try to win as much Grand Slams as I can. [Those are] the most important tournaments of the world.”
Potential history aside, I’d also like to out that Alcaraz, currently ranked third in the world, arrived in Australia looking more fit and buff than ever and wearing sleeveless shirts that put his muscles on display.
How great for tennis fans everywhere.
