Today’s Holiday Tune: The unique pairing of David Bowie and Bing Crosby on “Little Drummer Boy”

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_AMX21VKv97w/TRVwuZQWR3I/AAAAAAAAHlQ/3VAMM938ab4/s400/bowie+and+bing.jpgDavid Bowie, who was 30 at the time, and Bing Crosby, then 73, recorded this Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy duet  on Sept. 11, 1977, for Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas TV special.

A month later, Crosby was dead of a heart attack. The special was broadcast on CBS about a month after his death and their memorable duet has lived on ever since.

One Remark

  1. This duet is one of those things that could have failed spectacularly because of their vastly different musical styles, but it works, and it works really, really well. It’s an unexpectedly amazing collaboration between two musical greats.
