Thursday Morning Man: Lenny Kravitz!

We’ve known ab0ut Grammy winner Lenny Kravitz’s incredible music skills for a long time now.

Now, the handsome singer is showing another side of himself in the acclaimed film Precious which marks his acting debut. (I’m not counting a 2003 episode of The Simpsons!)

Lenny has only released nine albums in the past 20 years and one of those was a greatest hits compilation. But he’s been nominated for a Grammy Award for his performance on almost all of them winning four times in the Male Rock Vocal category.

His next album, Funk, is scheduled to be released early next year.

We all know that Lenny used to be married to actress Lisa Bonet of The Cosby Show and A Different World fame but it might not be as well known that his mother is the late Roxie Roker. Miss Roker starred as Helen in all 11 seasons of The Jeffersons and was the first celebrity autograph I ever got.

We went to a taping of the show in high school and she was not in that particular episode but was sitting in the audience. A couple of us got all excited when we say her signing some autographs so we went over to get one too. She wrote: “Peace and Love, Roxie Roker.”

Very sweet. I’m sure she was very proud of her son.
