Never knew the sad background of Thom and was so sorry to learn of it. The only soap I watch is Y&R and I would never miss it. They have recently introduced a gay character(Rafe) and it is the first time they have ever done so. Hope that you keep your eye on this show(careful, you might get hooked) and provide us with some information on the male characters. A good one to start, Chris Engen, who plays Adam Wilson. Chris is a superb actor and gives the character so many shadings. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role. Again, thanks for the story on Thom Bierdz. And I'm glad I did - just watched Friday's episode of Y&R on SoapNet - and Phillip's return onscreen was a jaw-dropper for me. As someone who's watched soaps for years and years, these true surprise moments are few and far between. John Driscoll, who played Coop on Guiding Light, has been cast as Thom Bierdz onscreen son 'Little Phillip' = and it's rumored that Phillip may be a love interest for lawyer Rafe, who just came out recently.
