4 Remarks

  1. Love her but she should’ve retired a while back from live performing.

That version on Letterman’s show of Rolling in the Deep was just horrible. She looked really bad and Cissy Houston, Whitney’s mom, was absolutely not into it. I thought she was disgraceful actually. Not paying attention, looking bored, not singing sometimes and so on. lol

  2. I agree Chip

  3. Retire from live performing? Are you kidding? Did you see the Kennedy Center performance that made Obama cry just a few years ago? And the Letterman performance was not at all horrible – the dress was but not Aretha’s performance despite Cissy’s bizarre attitude,

  4. Greg, in the last year or two when I’ve seen her she’s been horrible. Maybe I’ve just seen bad performances.

Prior to about 4 years ago she was always flawless. Now she’s just hit or miss and struggles to keep up her phrasing and breath.

It’s nothing shameful, she’s older, not in the best shape, and all that. Letterman was the first time I remember her just not being “Aretha” in the sense it wasn’t super strong and flawless. Nothing but respect for her regardless, I just fell sad seeing her perform, at least recently.
