“The Bachelorette/The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison chats with Greg In Hollywood about tonight’s finale

http://cdn.sheknows.com/realitytvmagazine/2010/01/the-bachelor-chris-harrison.jpgTonight is the finale of The Bachelorette!

We will find out if the adorable Ali Fedotowsky will pick Roberto, the hard-bodied insurance agent from Charleston, South Carolina, or sexy and sensitive Massachusetts landscaper Chris.

Or will she choose to stay single?

I chatted with the show’s host, Chris Harrison, last night at ABC’s cocktail party during TV Critics Association Summer Press Tour and started our conversation by asking: ‘So who does Ali pick?’

Of course, he didn’t divulge.

“I went to Vegas this weekend and picked up all the magazines and I saw a lot of good theories,” he said. “I will say this: out of the ten [theories] I read, somebody is right. Throw enough against the wall, eventually it sticks.”

We talked about how much publicity the show has been getting due to some drama involving potential Ali suitors Justin and Frank who still had other women in their lives plus the explosive break-up between previous bachelor Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi.

“Everybody’s talking about it,” Chris said. “It’s on the cover of five magazines this week. At some point, we became the news. People used to cover what happens on our show, like Jake picks Vienna, but now three weeks leading into the finale, Ali’s on the cover of every magazine so it’s amazing. Considering what happens, she’ll be on them next week too.”

What does he mean by that?

Chris admits that he’s not only the host of the show, but he can get emotionally involved.

“When Justin pulls the move he did, you’re pissed and you want him hobbling around the streets of Istanbul. When Frank pulled what he did, I wasn’t really made at Frank but I felt for Ali because I knew she was about to be hurt. So it’s interesting and it kind of changes the way you host the show.”

Since I and so many viewers have gotten sucked into the show this summer, I wanted to know if the way Ali and the bachelors come off on television is how they really are as people.

“For the most part it’s very accurate,” he said. “People have to realize it’s a TV show, it’s entertainment. You’re taking 25 guys or women and you’re trying to edit those stories down into 48 minutes of content. You’re trying to tell the stories, you’re trying to alludeĀ  and surprise the viewer. You’re trying to serve a lot of masters.”

Does Chris you still believe in Bachelor love? After all, very few of the couples ever even make it to the alter.

“I absolutely 100 believe it, I really do,” he insisted. “That’s where I get my validation and my true feelings from is the people on the show, they all 100 percent believe in it.”

True love will probably not happen on the summer spinoff Bachelor House which bows next week in the same Monday timeslot: “It’s summer TV, don’t think too hard,” Chris said. “Get a margarita, relax, it’s fun. It’s your favorites coming back and having fun and it’s a competition. It’s raunchy, it’s sexy, it’s crazy but everyone’s in on the joke so it’s fun.”
