The amazing story of Helen Mirren storming out of theater – in costume – to confront noisy gay band

This story is a hoot!

The great Helen Mirren was in the first act of a performance in play The Audience over the weekend (she plays Queen Elizabeth II) when her performance began being drowned out by As One in the Park festival drummers.

So what did Mirren do?

She stormed out of the theater on London’s West End during intermission – in costume – and confronted the musicians face-to-face.

Mirren tells the UK newspaper the Telegraph: “I was so upset from struggling through the scene with (leading man Paul Ritter) that I literally walked straight off stage, straight up the stairs and straight out the stage door and banged my way through the crowd who were watching and said, ‘Stop, you’ve got to stop right now,’ only I might have used stronger language than that,” she said.

The livid Oscar winner used words like “fuck” and phrases like “fuck off” to make her point.

“I’m afraid there were a few ‘thespian’ words used. They got a very stern royal ticking off but I have to say they were very sweet and they stopped immediately,” she adds. “I felt rotten but on the other hand they were destroying our performance so something had to be done.”

The actress won the Olivier Award last week for her performance in the play.
