The 2012 Greggys: The New Star of the Year is “Gayby” leading man Matthew Wilkas!
It’s always so fun and exciting to see a talented young performer having a breakthrough year.
That would certainly be the case for New Star of the Year winner Matthew Wilkas who appeared on Broadway all year long in Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark ((he plays Flash Thompson also the understudy for the Spiderman/Peter Parker) and had his first leading man role in the acclaimed indie comedy Gayby.
Matthew’s increased profile led to his being named to the Out 100 by Out Magazine and such fun things as being a guest bartender on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.
Gayby is a real showcase for Wilkas.
It tells the story of Jenn and Matt, a pair of single 30-somethings who set out to have a baby together. The fact that Matt is gay and that both are dating people as they try to conceive complicates things in funny and dramatic ways.
The fact that the character of Jenn is played by Wilkas’ real-life BFF, Jenn Harris, made for wonderful chemistry in writer-director Jonathan Lisecki’s debut feature.
I have absolutely no doubt Matthew’s star will continue to rise!
