Tennis Flashback: The day I watched a shirtless Jan-Michael Gambill practice at tournament at UCLA
Okay, I don’t think this was stalking. I consider it more of a case of wandering into the right place at the right time.
About a decade ago, I had the day off from work and went over to UCLA to see the men’s tournament which, sadly, had its last year there in 2012. I got there early and wandered over to the stadium where a shirtless guy was practicing – it was Jan-Michael Gambill!
I only had one of those throw-away cameras so I made my way down to the front row – there was literally no one else in the stands – and just started taking a bunch of photos as I wiped drool off of my mouth.
I found these prints in a box the other day and it was like buried treasure! I hope you enjoy them!
Gambill was once ranked as high as 14th in the world in men’s tennis and had wins over former #1 players Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt and Carlos Moya. But his unique playing style – a two-handed forehand and backhand, only took him so far including three tournament wins and a quarterfinal finish at Wimbledon.
He, of course, is a past Morning Man – read all about that HERE!

He has always pinged to me. If he’s gay it’s a shame he isn’t out.
