Sunday Morning Man: Callum Blue!

http://www.poptower.com/pic-13196/callum-blue.jpgAs evil Major Zod on Smallville, Callum Blue is giving the show about the early life of Superman a real jolt in its ninth season.

The 32-year-old British actor had previously been best known for his role as Mason on Dead Like Me and also played Alex in Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

Smallville seems to be providing him with another memorable role: “I’m always playing crazy, edgy, off-the-wall characters,” Callum says in the current issue of TV Guide. “On Diary of a Call Girl, I was playing the nice, normal guy, and that didn’t really sit right with me. I found it the hardest role I’ve ever played.”

He says of Major Zod who chopped off an underling’s head earlier this season: “I like that they’re protecting his villainous ways. There are no redeeming qualities about him.”

One Remark

  1. Callum Blue has also played some wonderful queer characters.

Callum played one of the most frustrating boyfriends I’ve ever seen on As If (2001/2002 – Series 3).

He plays “Mark” a bisexual dude who woos and falls in love with out gay character “Alex” (one of the main As If characters).

There whole love story is so much soapy, sexy, drama-filled goodness. He gets to deliver some fabulously snarky, venomy lines!

It’s like a combination of some teen/young adult Neil Simon romcom mixed with Marx Brothers, a smidge of US Queer as Folk and a dash of John Hughes angst.

Half the time I wanted to give him a cuddle the other half I wanted to smack the crap out of him (sometimes in the same scene).

Callum is all kinds of awesome!
