“Streep Tease” – show with all-male cast doing Meryl diologue – is coming back – with help of Kickstarter

I’m happy to spread the word on this!

It’s been three years since I last saw a production of Streep Tease, an evening of monologues from various Meryl Streep films that are performed by an all-male cast.

You know how we gays love our Meryl and all her great films like Devil Wears Prada, Postcards From the Edge, Sophie’s Choice, Julie and Julia, Doubt, Death Becomes Her and, literally, on and on and on and on.

Streep Tease was created by Roy Cruz who launched it as a small show in 2009. It came back again in 2011 and lasted another 6 months, and in June 2011 the show played at the prestigious Joe’s Pub of the New York Public Theater.

In 2012, Streep Tease had another successful, critical and box office run during the Hollywood Fringe Festival and again it played to sold out audiences every single show.

There is plenty of new material to freshen up a revival. Since the last production, Streep has won the Oscar (her third) for The Iron Lady and been nominated for juicy performances in Into the Woods and August: Osage County.

Cruz plans to bring the show back to LA beginning September 19 at the Coast Playhouse in West Hollywood for a six week run.

But it will b expensive and that’s why he’s launched a $25,000 Kickstarter campaign.

‘A big part of the fund will go to the theater rental,’ he writes. ‘We already made a deposit for a one month run. The show will play at the popular Coast Playhouse in West Hollywood. It’s in a great location and it’s one of the theaters that housed a lot of productions that eventually landed on Broadway. That is the ultimate goal of this show to take this to Broadway, then tour, then take it around the world. That is our ultimate goal!! With your help we can do it!

The cast will be Cruz, Teddy Margas, Ron Morehouse, Matthew Nouriel, Chris Pudlo, and Joel Scher and special guests.
