Straight ally of the week: Ashton Kutcher!
Posted about Ashton Kutcher yesterday but wanted to give him some extra love today (and post a hot pic of him working out!). He publicly scolded one of his Twitter followers for using the word “gay” in a derogatory way and pointed out that its use is similar to using the N-word.
It was a simple thing for hiom to do and yet it is getting so much attention. I think it’s attention well-deserved because not only will it make an impression on his many young followers, but it is an example of what a difference straight allies can make in this world and in the battle for LGBT equality.
Here’s a straight young person who is saying, ‘Knock it off.” Imagine if there was a superstar in a major pro sport who spoke out against homophobia or who publicly supported a fellow athlete who had the guts to come out as gay. And then there’s this: imagine a high-profile and infuential Republican supporting gay marriage and the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don;t Tell.”
LGBT folks will never, ever give up the fight for our rights. But our journey is greatly helped by people like Ashton Kutcher and other famous and straight supporters like Gavin Newsom, Elizabeth Taylor, Brad Pitt, Judith Light and many oithers.
