Steve Grand’s Kickstarter campaign for debut album going gangbusters – surpasses $200,000 mark
I’ve been so discombobulated today that I didn’t even do a Morning Man. So to make it up to you, I’m throwing a little beefcake your way via our All-American Boy Steve Grand.
Some amazing news regarding Steve who had hoped to raise $81,000 on Kickstarter in order to complete his debut album.
Instead, the YouTube sensation ended up making history.
Grand announced to his fans this week that their outpouring of financial support has resulted in his upcoming album becoming one of the top 10 most funded projects in Kickstarter history.
As of today, $211,500 has been raised with 16 days of the campaign remaining.
‘Blown away,’ Grand wrote to fans on a Facebook post. ‘This is no longer just an album. YOU have made it a movement.’
He added: ‘YOU weren’t satisfied with giving just enough to get this record produced. YOU seem determined to put this album on the same playing field as artists backed by major labels who usually dominate the airwaves. Every dollar now means we can market and promote this album to an even wider audience.’
Grand points out that the six figures and counting that have been pledged so far will go beyond completion and marketing of the album. It will allow him to go on tour to promote it.
And all on his own terms without a major record label calling the shots or trying to influence his LGBTI-inclusive songs like All-American Boy and Stay..
‘Big labels spend millions to make hit records,’ he wrote. ‘But together, we’re doing this $10, $15 and $25 at a time.’
