Showtune Sunday: When Streisand sang a stupendous ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ at Emmys 16 years ago
Barbra Streisand won an Emmy in 2001 but did not take the stage to accept it in person.
It was assumed that she had simply skipped the ceremony which had twice been delayed because of the 9/11 attacks.
But after host Ellen DeGeneres said goodnight to the audience, Streisand emerged and performed one of the most powerful and moving renditions of You’ll Never Walk Alone that I have ever seen. We needed it then, and now.
