Showtune Sunday: Performances of Academy Award winning songs from Celine, Barbra and Madonna
Barbra Streisand’s performance of Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star Is Born) was one of the highlights of the 1977 Academy Awards ceremony.
She was at the peak of her considerable powers not only singing a song from a movie she starred in and produced, but it was a song she had written (with Paul Williams). And, she won the Oscar for best original song to go along for the Oscar she won for acting in Funny Girl.
With today being Oscar Sunday, it seems appropriate that Showtune Sunday be dedicated to a quartet of Oscar-winning songs performed on the Academy Awards telecast. Included are Streisand’s performance of Evergreen, Madonna performing Sooner or Later from Dick Tracy and Celine Dion’s powerful performance of My Heart Will Go On from The Titanic. Then there is Celine again dueting with Peabo Bryson on Beauty and the Beast.

Hi Greg
Please do not forget that Madonna also sang You Must Love Me from Evita that also won the Oscar.
