Showtune Sunday: Broadway icons Patti LuPone and Bernadette Peters singing the same songs
Their Broadway successes are legendary and I am a huge fan of both. Three-time Tony winner Patti LuPone (Evita, Gypsy, Company) and two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters (Song and Dance, Annie Get Your Gun). They have such different styles and are so brilliant in their own way so it’s interesting to hear them sing some of the same songs.
Patti’s other Tony-nominated musical roles are Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, War Paint, The Robber Bridegroom and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. She won the Olivier Award in London for Les Miserables and Company and was nominated for Sunset Boulevard.
Bernadette has also been Tony nominated for Sunday in the Park with George, Mack & Mabel, Gypsy, On the Town, The Goodbye Girl and Into the Woods. Her other successes include taking over the leads in Hello, Dolly!, A Little Night Music, and Follies and she will return to Broadway next year in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends.

Bernadette has 3 Tonys too.. you have to count the Isabelle Stevenson Award she won in 2012. It’s not a performance award but based on her broader work with Broadway Barks, etc
