Showtune Sunday: Bette Midler as a scary witch singing “I Put a Spell on You” in “Hocus Pocus”

When Hocus Pocus first came out in theaters in 1993, I didn’t bother to go see it even though I was and am a big Bette Midler fan and have seen most of her movies – even Jinxed!

Well, once my niece and nephew were born (they are ages 8 and 11), Hocus Pocus became one of our Halloween traditions and I’ve now seen the movie more than any other Midler flick except maybe Beaches and The First Wives Club.

The film is just a hoot and so is the Divine Miss M as Winifred “Winnie” Sanderson, the leader of the Sanderson sisters. She is the eldest and is highly sensitive to people calling her ugly and has a very short temper. The other two sisters are played by Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.
