Showtune Sunday: Aretha Franklin vs. Dionne Warwick and all about “I Say a Little Prayer For You”
As flattered as she was that Aretha Franklin cut “I Say a Little Prayer” a year after Dionne Warwick introduced the song, Warwick told the LA Times last week that “there was nothing different about it aside from the voice. She didn’t alter it.”
Many listeners, including Greg in Hollywood, would disagree.
But both versions were sublime – and huge hits.
Which is your favorite?
I’ve included, just for fun, a duet of the song performed by the late, great multi-Grammy winners Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston.
Enjoy!

Chris Little says:
Aretha’s version is the best. Just listen to the back ground singers. I love the call and response as the background singers sing the chorus.
