Showtune Sunday: All about TV moms!

To the gays and other fans of the theater, Patti LuPone and Betty Buckley are Tony Award winning Broadway legends who have dazzled us for decades in a series of amazing roles.

Patti in Evita, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd and Gypsy and Betty in Cats, Song and Dance and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. And both starred in Sunset Boulevard on the London stage with Patti originating the role and Betty eventually also appearing on Broadway, replacing Glenn Close.

And there are so many more stage credits for these great divas.

Yet, if I were at a dinner party with say a group of straight guys (it happens), they would assume I was talking about Libby Thatcher from Life Goes On (“Oh, that’s Corky and Becka’s mom!”) and Abby Bradford from Eight is Enough.

It’s true!

So here are these two great ladies of the theater who are also memorable TV moms along with performances from a couple of other TV moms and also happened to know a thing or two about musicals themselves before they became Carol; Brady and Shirley Partridge: Florence Henderson and Shirley Jones!

One Remark

  1. I am gay but not into Cher, Patti LuPone, streisand, garland, gaga, or most of these gals that gays are stereotyped into loving. However, I do love Miss Ross.
