Showtune Sunday: All about Tony Award-winning star Ben Platt on his 30th birthday!
At age 23, Platt became the youngest solo recipient of the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his performance in Dear Evan Hansen. He reprised the role of Evan Hansen in the 2021 film adaptation of the musical. This year, he produced and starred in the musical comedy film Theater Camp, inspired by the 2020 short film of the same name he co-wrote with fiancé Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, and Nick Lieberman. He also recently starred in the film The People We Hate at the Wedding and his earlier movie roles include the successful Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2.
He’s released the solo albums Sing to Me Instead and Reverie, starred in the Netflix series The Politician for two seasons, and appeared on Broadway in The Book of Mormon for a year. Platt returned to Broadway this year in Parade and earned a Tony nomination.
With so many professional opportunities, it’s no surprise after enrolling at Columbia University in New York, Platt dropped out after seven weeks to fulfill his contract with The Book of Mormon.
