Showtune Sunday: All About “The Wizard of Oz”

Today is the 80th anniversary of the release of The Wizard of Oz.

I bought my niece and nephew a DVD of the movie many years ago but in a way, I felt sad that they didn’t get to experience it the way my siblings and I did: once a year on television.

It was event TV and we never missed it. I’d be giddy with anticipation all day knowing it would be airing that night.

About five years at at the TCM Classics Film Festival, I got to see the movie on the big screen and with an audience at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

It’s a movie that is special each time you see it and really takes you back.

I grabbed a few of my favorite musical numbers for your Pleasure.

Yes, it was definitely a once-a-year event. We only saw it in black and white until we got a color tv in the mid-sixties. The first time I saw it in color, I was completely in love all over again.

If you haven’t seen the Internet’s newest sensation, google “Wizard of Oz”. On the link that comes up on the top-right, click on the Ruby Slippers. Enjoy. Then, click on the twister. More fun stuff! Really cool!
