Showtune Sunday: All about the gorgeous ballad ‘What I Did For Love’ from ‘A Chorus Line’

What I Did for Love from the musical A Chorus Line (music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban). It was quickly recognized for its show-business potential outside Broadway and was picked up by popular singers for several decades now.

Here are some of them from Ethel Merman to Josh Groban!

2 Remarks

  1. Out of the four, Josh did the best rendition. I really adore Shirley Bassey, and there are really no limits to her talent. But I’ve heard some better renditions on You Tube. It’s only MY opinion, but nobody can handle such a romantic song better than a male voice. However, listening to these voices, very few (if any) singers today can carry that song and tune the way they do.. They all use tricks to make their voices sound acceptable, but cannot carry a note by itself. In my opinion, They are being judged by people in some venues, who are not much more talented.

  2. Check out Johnny Mathis’ version
